Church in the City

Church in the City is unique. It is casual, but God focused. The music is contemporary and engaging, but worshipful. The messages are biblically Christ-centered and are therefore practical. Our goal every week is to help people on their spiritual journey connect with God in a way that is personal and life-transforming. Our vision as a church is “to create a vibrant community that invites people to passionately follow Christ.” It isn’t about religion, but about the ability to be in relationship with the God of the universe who loves us passionately.

Church in the City is a place where real people seek to encourage each other and experience God. No matter who you are or how you found us, we warmly welcome you and encourage you to put us to the test. We might just be the family you’ve been looking for.

Sermon Notes

Philippians 4:6-13

Strategies for dealing with stress:

  1. Worry about nothing
  2. Pray about everything
  3. Thank God in all things
  4. Think about good things
  5. Be content with anything today…in detail

Refuse to worry about anything (Phil 4:6)

  1. Worry is unreasonable (Matt 6:25)
    1. Worry exaggerates problems
    2. Worry doesn’t work
  2. Worry is unnatural (Matt 6:26, Matt 6:28-29)
    1. In all of God’s creation, only humans worry
    2. Because it is unnatural, it is also unhealthy (Prov 12:25, Prov 14:30)
  3. Worry is unhelpful (Matt 6:27)
  4. Worry is unnecessary (Matt 6:30 1 Peter 5:7))

Worry is a choice, so refuse to do it

  1. Talk to God about everything (Phil 4:6, James 4:2, Rom 8:32)
  2. Thank God in all things (Phil 4:6, 1 Thes 5:18))
  3. Think about good things (Phil 4:8, Prov 14:9)
    1. Think about God (Is 26:3)
  4. Be content with what you have – anything (Phi 4:11-12)

How can we learn to be context in a society that worships more:

  1. Stop thinking that having more will make me more happy, more important, more secure (Ecc 4:6)
  2. Stop comparing (Prov 14:30)
  3. Learn to admire without having to acquire (Phil 4:13, Job 22:21)
